Contract Growing

At Moosa Creek Nursery we have a large selection of California native plants available for your landscaping or restoration project. Many of the most popular species are grown from coastal and inland propagation stock, so often a contract to grow plant material is not necessary.

However, where feasible, contract growing for specific projects can take the headaches out of California native plant sourcing and save you money. A contract to grow California native plants for a project will ensure that all of the required plants are available when needed. Contracts will also help satisfy specific project requirements for site specific propagation materials, specific planting mix requirements and use of locally collected mycorrhizae and soil.

In order to ensure a successful project it is important to provide as much notice as possible. Harvesting site (or region) specific propagation materials often have a very small annual window and some plants are particular about the times of the year where they will grow. Ample notice will also help the project meet its schedule and save money. For most projects six to nine months is adequate for a successful contract grow, especially if seed has already been collected.

Our contracts are relatively simple and are designed to make the project successful for you and for us. The contract will usually include 1) a list of California native plant materials to be provided, 2) a deposit of at least 25% and 3) a provision to handle delays in plant material delivery. We will do contract grows for small and large projects.
