Plant Highlights

This particular Ceanothus has been given its name by the bumpy and rough stipules on its stem that give the appearance of warts. However, this lilac is beautiful with its closely placed leaves and white flowers. Verrucosus has a dense, rounded form and is suitable for slopes and dry borders. It blooms early. It does well with lower temperatures and some experts recommend some partial shade inland. It is endemic to the coast of San Diego county, and northern Baja. Due to coastal building development there is concern among conservationists but is not yet on the endangered list.
