Plant Highlights

One of the most beautiful large native shrubs. California Glory is an abundantly flowering shrub whioh will make a grand statement in your landscape. The masses of 3" golden yellow flowers bring warmth and life to the garden. Leaves are dark green and covered with tiny hairs. Growing to 10'-20' height and up to 15' wide, this shrub needs some space and course, well draining soil to thrive. Be very sure not to overwater once this shrub is established. If possible, plant your Fremontodendron in late fall so that it is established before the summer, avoiding the danger of overwatering. The dry hairs on the leaves can be irritating to skin, so it is best to plant this away from high-traffic areas.

Hybrid, random; origin = seed (1949) R. californicum x F. mexicanum, Theodore Payne Foundation; intro Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden 1962.
