Plant Highlights

Soft Rush is a large (2' - 4') bright evergreen perennial rush that grows in full or partial sun, in moist soil. It can be distinguished from most other rushes by the absence of alternate leaves along its soft stems. Soft Rush is a true Rush, with round stems filled with a lightweight, yet strong plant tissue called aerenchyma, that makes it paticulary suited for weaving. Soft Rush forms tall, dense colonies of reeds that birds use for cover and nesting spots. It is used in reclamation and erosion control for wetlands, but also does well in containers and would look great paired with the grayish colors of Juncus patens, or with the clumping sedges such as Carex spissa.
