Plant family: Poaceae - Grass
Plant type: Grass-like
Plant origin: N/A, California
Chaparral, Coastal Strand, Grassland, Oak Woodland
This California native is a perennial grass, that grows in many types of habitat. It is found in open meadows, & woodland up to the subalpine zone.
Best planted en masse. It's a bright green cool-season grass that withstands foot traffic and requires half the water and mowing maintenance of traditional turf. Left unmowed, it creates the look of a natural, informal meadow. Foliage stays close to the ground, the flowering stems reach up to two feet. Expect some summer dormancy.
