Plant Highlights

This coastal native is a sturdy perennial growing in low mounds with grass-like blades and pinkish purple pompom flowers on long stems. The slightly wider leaf blades and taller flower stem distinguishes this California native Seapink from the more commonly available European Seapink or Sea Thrift. California Seapink is great along the coast in full sun, but give it some light shade in hot inland areas. Moderate to regular water and decent drainage provide the ideal conditions for this pretty garden accent or border plant. It adds lovely splashes of color to a rock garden, in a container or atop a wall. This plant loves natural sandy soil but will also thrive in clay soils, sandy loam or just about any soil type.
