Plant Highlights

Boca Rosa Island Snapdragon is a very tough and adaptable evergreen shrub that provides a year-round fountain of nectar. This Channel Island native quickly forms a dense mound of bright green leaves with arching stems reaching to 4 feet tall or taller if provided with support. In late winter through spring, summer and fall ‘Boca Rosa’ produces profuse 1 inch long bright red flowers at the tips of its long slender branches. Hummingbirds adore this plant and it is a food source for our Checkerspot butterfly. This plant can take full sun at the coast and light shade inland. It is great as a slope stabilizer and is beautiful under the dry shade of oaks. It can be trained to climb or used in containers. Flower cuttings will look fresh for up to two weeks, provided the water is refreshed often. Hmm, what else can this plant do? Oh, it tolerates salt spray but will also thrive in clay soils.
