Plant Highlights

A common native wildflower that grows from creeping rootstocks to 1- to 3 ft tall. Densely hairy and lacy, fern-like foliage with clusters of white to cream colored blooms from Spring to Fall. This yarrow stays semi-evergreen while dormant, is very drought tolerant and thrives in gravelly or sandy soils.

Western yarrow is recommended for adding ornamental native diversity in pollinator friendly, low maintenance and naturalized landscapes. Quail and grouse, especially chicks, rely heavily on the foliage as a food source. Native Americans used yarrow for teas, poultices on infected wounds and as a mosquito repellent.
