Plant Highlights

This rare and endangered native deciduous shrub grows to 4’ high to 8’wide. It is resident to chaparral and coastal sage shrub from Baja, California to no further north than San Diego County. Stiff, bright green twigs bear sharp thorns and sparse foliage with pointed tips, hence the common name Spineshrub. Fragrant, small, star-shaped cream colored flowers profusely bloom all along the branches through spring.

Plant in full sun in well-drained sandy or gravely soil. Excellent for erosion control and low barrier plantings. We grow this plant primarily for our restoration customers.
